Discussion

To allow the I/Gear DTU to start the RSLinx OPC Server, perform the following:

  1. Go to Start -> Run. Type regedit and hit enter.
  2. Go to Key HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\RSLinx OPC Server.
  3. Right-click on RSLinx OPC Server and select Permissions.
  4. Click Add under Group or user names:.
  5. Click Locations and select the server name.
  6. Add the following username: IGUSR_COM
  7. Under Permissions, select Full Control.
  8. Repeat steps 3-7 for HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\RSLinx Remote OPC Server.

When these steps are completed, restart I/Gear and test the DataLink.

If you still experience issues please do the following:

  1. Open COM+ Applications by going to Start -> Settings -> Control Panel -> Administrative Tools -> Component Services.
  2. Expand Component Services under Console Root until you see Computers, My Computer*, then COM+ Applications.
  3. Under COM+ Applications you should see a list that includes the "I-Gear OPC DataLink" and any other DataLinks running in isolation.
  4. Right-click on the I-Gear OPC DataLink and select "Properties".
  5. In the items properties window, select the "Identity" tab.
  6. By default, the user listed should be IGUSR_COM. Change this to an account in the local Administartors group whose password does not change.
  7. Stop and restart the I/Gear service for the changes to take effect.

Additional Information

We have found that RSLinx 2.5 will sometime not install correctly. Uninstalling the following software prior to installing RSLinx will alleviate this issue:

  • RSView
  • RSLinx Enterprise
  • Rockwell Windows Firewall Configuration
